Sony Announces PS3 Slim

In regards to features, the PS3 Slim doesn’t really offer much besides its sleeker design. It will however include a 120GB hard-drive, consume 34% less power, 32% less space, and cost a measly $299. Sony has done a great job at keeping this announcement pretty secretive, just being announced several weeks ago, and with its’ anticipated release date the first week of September – which is just around the corner. Prices on the current PS3 models were instantly slashes across the board. The 80GB Ps3 price has been cut from $399 to $299, while the 160GB PS3 has been cut from $499 to $399.
By doubling as a blu-ray player, and especially after winning the war against HD-DVD’s, Sony has been able to take advantage of the future of home-theater industry. Blu-ray players are populating in households across the country. Especially due to their high prices, the PS3 seems like an ideal gift or purchase for any household. Hopefully for Sony this new announcement and price cut can help spur some sales. I for one will be purchasing a PS3 Slim when released to give it a full review. I could also use a blu-ray player in my room.
We must say however that although the new design is sleek and somewhat plain, it really isn’t a huge improvement over the original mammoth PS3 console. With the obvious improvements being increased portability, and lower power consumption use, it won’t really make any current PS3 owners jump for joy. Many gamers have also been complaining about the new ‘boring’ design, but hey, your not suppose to be [expletive] your console system! Boring or not, this new PS3 will do what you need it do, play games, listen to music and watch some kick-ass blu-ray movies. For gamers who don’t own a PS3, next month will serve a prime opportunity to get one, especially with some sweet new game releases on the way. For those too eager to wait, go out and get yourself a mammoth PS3 at a $100 discount. And for those who just bought a PS3 a few days before the announcement at full price, well….sucks to be you! We’ve all been there!
